Aug. 22nd Lions BBQ a roaring success

The Croton Lions annual barbecue August 22, 2024 at Senasqua Park was what we would call a roaring success! Everything the Lions do is with the end goal of helping others. This year, we put out a call for used eyeglasses to help those in need and you responded. Thank you, Croton!

Dignitaries included Village of Croton Mayor Brian Pugh, Deputy Mayor Len Simon, and Village Historian Marc Cheshire. Dana Levenberg, NY State Assemblywoman, attended with her assistant, as well as Westchester County Legislator Emiljana Ulaj. Also in attendance were Janeen Violante, Rotary President, and the Lions District Governor James Paulin with his wife Denise, who is the president of the Yorktown Lions Club.

The “doors” opened at 6 PM and by 6:10 a line was forming at the registration table. Hats off to Sadie, Seth and Mary for setting up all the tables, and Sadie and Mary for so graciously handling the welcoming table.

A registered guest list of 50 grew to over 80 at the door. Fortunately, Pete Tsagarakis brought plenty of burgers and sides for everyone, prepared for us by his staff at the Croton Colonial Restaurant and Diner. The delicious food garnered many compliments from guests.

Many other Lions worked behind the scenes to help the event run smoothly. Our thanks to Bob Anderson, event co-chair, who handled so many details, large and small, and thanks especially for providing the podium with loudspeaker.

A big shout out to Steve Giacobello, who was in charge of the lawn games and music.

Don Daubney inducts Greta Hanson into Croton Lions.

The highlight of the evening was the induction of our newest member, Greta Hanson, by Don Daubney. Thank you, Don, and welcome to the Croton Lions, Greta.

We had a successful 50/50 raffle with $140 prize going to the winner plus five more door prizes.

The barbecue concluded around 8:30 PM with a glorious Hudson River sunset.
